The Hide
The Hide is one of Hwange's most established Lodges and is still a family-run lodge, set in a private concession with the Park itself. Access is via charter flight from Victoria Falls, or a 3 hour scheduled road transfer from Victoria Falls, or on a self-drive basis. It's position within the Hwange Park, in its own private concession, is unique, adjacent as it is to historic elephant trails and a massive grassland corridor. Herds of elephant, buffalo, and a multitude of other game are all drawn to the dependable sources of the Hide's waterhole, whilst the camp's two concealed hides, positioned either side of the water hole, offer unique viewing and photographic opportunities.
Accommodation at The Hide is offered in ten large tented suites under thatch, styled along classic lines, with views across the waterhole. Each tented room has an en-suite bathroom, some with outdoor showers and some with large baths. All the tents are mosquito—proofed and have fans.
The Hide also offers accommodation in the romantic Dove’s Nest, a wonderful tree house which overlooks the vlei and pan, for a real ‘in the bush’ experience.
Activities on offer at The Hide Safari Camp include game viewing by vehicle, in the morning, the afternoon or at night with a spotlight. There are also morning or evening guided bush walks, and the chance to view game from underground hides, bush breakfasts and an overnight stay at Doves Nest.
Hwange is home to one of the largest populations of African wild dog in and it’s a good place to see leopard and rhino among the many other mammal species. Interesting too are the bat-eared foxes, the genets, the caracal and a host of other "specials". The Park has an incredible bird population with over 400 species (including migrants) recorded to date.
