Somalisa Camp
Somalisa Camp is located in a private concession within Hwange National Park. It is on the Somalisa floodplains, along the Kennedy vlei-line. Access is a scheduled 4.5 hour road transfer from Victoria Falls or from Bulawayo, or by charter flight into Hwange or Manga airstrip. Self-drive guests are welcome, but need to have a 4x4 vehicle.
Somalisa is a small tented camp, with 7 luxury tents. The camp has been designed for low environment impact whilst not detracting from offering a luxurious experience to guests. The use of solar lighting ensures your comfort without interfering with the environment and the area’s natural surrounds. Hot water bottles are provided for the cooler nights. Somalisa Camp offers an authentic bush camp experience, with a blend of old African charm from bygone safari days, along with modern conveniences with understated elegance.
The camp’s main area (also under canvas) includes a library, a sitting area, and dining table. Guests also have the use of a swimming pool, and a platform overlooking a pan close to camp. The views are unsurpassed.
As Hwange is the largest reserve in Zimbabwe it offers excellent game concentrations, with over 100 mammal and reptiles species and more than 400 bird species. Known as the ‘Land of the Giants’, the elephant population is still exceptional .
Somalisa's bush walks and game drives will allow you the opportunity to observe elephant, kudu and sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, white rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species. The Kennedy Vlei has something to offer during each season – either the large herds during the dry season, or the wild flowers once the rains arrive. Activities include guided walks, game drives and night drives with spot lighting as well as game viewing from hides. All are lead by passionate guides amongst the best qualified in Zimbabwe.
