Changa Safari Camp
Changa Safari Camp is set in a private concession within Matusadona National Park, and enjoys four and a half kilometres of shoreline on the famed Lake Kariba. Changa is off the beaten track, and intriguingly secluded in the heart of an interesting and diverse eco-system – with a blend of bush, mountains and water.
Accommodation at Changa is in 6 double en suite tented rooms, complete with private veranda, outdoor bath and shower. There are also 2 family tents, with private veranda, outdoor bath and shower. Each luxury en suite tent is decorated tastefully and with unique African influences, from rustic wood and leather to woven basketry, crisp white linen to locally-crafted furniture. All tents are mosquito-proofed.
Changa has been designed to blend in with the environment as much as possible and the natural materials, thatched roofs, wooden decks and walkways merge beautifully with the surroundings. The main lounge and library area is comfortably furnished in an eclectic style, and gives a relaxed, homely vibe. The lounge is completely open to the gentle breeze, shaded by a thatch roof with sprawling views of the main deck, beach and lakeshore.
The lodge’s main deck, which is complete with a curved stairway leading to the lower deck, fire pit and wide beach, is the perfect spot to sit and relax. The swimming pool is a delightful shaded haven equipped with sun loungers and private seating areas.
Meals are relaxed and laid back, set around a large table in the dining room or under a canopy of trees on the vast wooden deck overlooking the lake. Private dinners can also be arranged.
Zimbabwe is well-known for its excellent walking safaris and the Matusadona National Park is no exception. Here you can enjoy an early morning or late afternoon guided walk and explore the shoreline, the many tributaries and streams that feed the lake, or perhaps follow well-worn elephant trails that take you into the mountain region. Game drives are also available within the Changa’s private concession.
You can also enjoy some boating, fishing (tiger and tilapia are popular species to catch) and excellent birding during your stay.
