Little Makololo
Little Makalolo is situated within the Hwange National Park in a huge 100 000 hectare private concession area. The ecology here includes huge open, palm-fringed plains, grasslands, acacia woodlands and teak forests. These vegetation types ensure a varied food supply to a vast number of animals all year round.
Little Makalolo overlooks an active waterhole. The camp has six rooms with en-suite facilities, with indoor and outdoor showers. Solar power provides low impact electricity.
The Camp's main areas include a dining room, a lounge, a plunge pool and an open fire area. There is a log pile 'tree house' hide overlooking the waterhole in front of the camp where guests can enjoy wildlife viewing during the siesta hours.
Activities at Little Makalolo include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, nature walks, and viewing from hides whilst in camp. Makalolo is one of the best areas for seeing impressive herds of buffalo and elephant as well as apex predators such as lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah. Other general game is very abundant in the Park.
During the summer months the plains game migrates onto the plains, with the predators close behind. Elephant, rhino, buffalo, sable, roan, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala and sometimes even gemsbok (oryx) can be seen here. The predators include lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah, as well as African wildcat, serval, honey badger, civet and spotted hyaena.
Bird life in the area is prolific, with more than 400 recorded species.
