Jozibanini Camp
Jozibanini Camp is situated in the remote south west of Hwange National Park in a wilderness area previously unused for nearly 20 years. The Camp is set in a private concession, and is the only property in this part of Hwange – making for a truly remote and private experience.
This part of the Park has an interesting ecosystem, as it is semi-desert akin to the Kalahari in neighbouring Botswana. Jozibanini’s area includes windblown fossil sand dunes, which are separated by shallow valleys where elephant paths have compacted the terrain.
Accommodation at this small camp is in 5 classic Tents, set on raised wooden decks tucked under Shepherds bush and Camelthorn trees, which overlook the Jozibanini Pan. Each tent has a bucket shower and en suite flush toilet. The tents are all 20 square metres in extent, and 3 have twin beds, with the other 2 being doubles.
Guests can also enjoy the ‘Star Bed’ Experience - all beds are fitted with wheels allowing them to be easily moved onto the tent deck allowing you to be able to sleep under the stars.
Jozibanini is very much a back to basics Camp and will suit the Safari enthusiast. There is not real central area, and dining is very much an informal arrangement, under the stars.
Activities are varied, and include Game viewing during the day and at night. Full day game drives are also available. You can also enjoy bush walks with a professional guide.
The Camp also boast a Look Up game viewing hide. This allows for some exceptional game sightings, literally up close and personal. The hide is also equipped with an en-suite flush toilet.
Imvelo Safari Lodges operate 15 waterholes for the wildlife of Hwange, and visits to some of these pumps (taking fuel and supplies) makes for a different and interesting activity. As Jozibanini is some distance from any other lodge or airstrip, you can be transferred to and from Camp from the sister camps of Bomani or Camelthorn, to the south east, or from Nehimba, to the north. This transfer generally also includes calling at boreholes along the way to supply pump attendants and to make any necessary repairs, and takes some 6 hours.
Jozibanini is also offering a new activity - experimental Mountain Biking. This allows the adventurous to experience Hwange from a very unique perspective. Generally the deep Kalahari sands make much of Hwange inappropriate for biking, but the local geography and elephants have worked together to make it a possibility here – with natural pathways.
Due to Jozibanini’s remote location, neither Wi-Fi nor cell phone reception is available.
Please note that children under the age of 7 are only allowed by special arrangement.
Please note Jozibanini is seasonal and is closed from 01 November to 15 April on an annual basis.
