Ruckomechi Camp
Ruckomechi Camp lies on the western boundary of the Mana Pools National Park, with the Zambezi River to the north, and the Rift Valley escarpment across the River, forming a spectacular backdrop. It is a remote and beautiful place. Here you will find diverse habitats – open floodplains, mopane woodland, and riverine forests.
Ruckomechi Camp accommodates twenty guests in ten spacious en-suite tented units, all overlooking the Zambezi River. Each tent has both indoor and outdoor showers, and the camp also has a special outdoor bath with a view in a secluded spot. Hot water and lighting is solar powered.
The main camp area has a dining room, a bar, a library and a lounge area facing towards the escarpment. There is an infinity pool with a deck.
The area here is famous for large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo and eland, especially in the winter when they concentrate along the river. Predators such as lion, leopard and wild dog are all found in the area. Birdlife is superb, particularly for both mopane woodland and riverine species with numerous local specials like Collared Palm-Thrush, Racket-tailed Roller, Purple-banded Sunbird and Black-throated Wattle-Eyes.
Ruckomechi Camp offers wildlife viewing in open 4x4 vehicles, in motorised pontoon boats, by walking safaris and with canoe trips. Game viewing is excellent, with large concentrations of buffalo and elephant and predators such as lion, wild dog, leopard and cheetah. Greater kudu, Burchell's zebra, impala, warthog and common waterbuck can be seen on the surrounding plains and the grunting of hippo can be heard all day.
